about Who is Kasia Kines?
Kasia is from Northern Europe, growing up in a small Polish resort town near Gdansk on the Baltic Sea famous for its mineral water, hydrotherapy, mud peat therapy, and doctors’ recommended walks on the sandy beach for the iodine-rich air. She obtained her Masters Degree in English Philology from Gdansk University and taught English as a Forgeign Language (EFL) for a number of years before moving to the US to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) in colleges and at universities in the Ann Arbor and Seattle areas.
After moving to the US, she became increasingly alarmed with food politics, the food industry, disease and obesity. She felt compelled to do something about it and train to help people with their health. As a result, she left a successful teaching career of 18 years to pursue Master’s of Science in Nutrition, Clinical Track, at Bastyr University, Kenmore WA, near Seattle WA, which offered the best graduate clinical nutrition program in the country. The rigorous cutting-edge training combined the latest scientific research and the philosophy of whole foods. MISSION STATEMENT:
To inspire others to find exceptional health and a truer sense of nourishment through holistic nutrition and whole foods and to help patients develop practical and sustainable strategies for their health goals.
To change the world one person at a time, helping our planet heal.
Bastyr University is also respected around the world as a pioneer of naturopathic medicine. While at Bastyr, Kasia was exposed to the naturopathic approach to health and disease and to a team approach to patient care. As part of the counseling track, Kasia was a Student Clinician for a year at Bastyr Center for Natural Health in Seattle WA, a clinic for a local community run by naturopathic, acupuncture and nutrition student clinicians.
Kasia practiced as a Certified Nutritionist in Bremerton, WA, a small naval town, a ferry ride away to Seattle, WA before settling with her loving husband and family in the beautiful state of Maryland.
Honoring Natural Processes
Kasia agrees with the philosophy of naturopathic medicine: symptoms are a way of your body communicating an imbalance, so rather than covering a symptom with a band aid, it is important to find its true cause (be it emotional, spiritual, or physiological) and to also find long-lasting solutions. The body’s intrinsic capacity and desire is to heal and be in balance, also called homeostasis. In fact, it tries to maintain balance everyday. That is why Kasia will honor each patient as a whole person rather than a sum of the symptoms. That makes a lot of sense in nutritional counseling since food is never isolated from other aspects of one’s life, and since the wounds we may have in our relationship with food often run deep.
Education
Kasia earned a Masters degree in Nutrition from the prestigious Bastyr University in 2005. Often called the “Harvard of Naturopathic Medicine”, Bastyr University is located in a suburb of Seattle, Washington and provides opportunities for a diverse student body to interact with world class faculty in the science of nutrition. This is not an online university, rather one that seeks to provide opportunities for hands-on practical clinical, counseling and research experience.
Clinical Work
Kasia partners with medical doctors and other health professionals who appreciate holistic medicine and the benefits of an eastern and western approach to good health. For two years, Kasia was the original nutritionist for the Johns Hopkins Integrative Medicine and Digestive Center, Lutherville, MD, working closely with the JHU Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department. She contracted with the Johns Hopkins Integrative Center from 2008-2010 as a resource for patients, having received referrals from Johns Hopkins doctors as a CNS through Holistic Nutrition Naturally LLC. Currently, Kasia’s practice is located at Sunlight Natural Health, Baltimore, MD, a naturopathic clinic, where she works with a team of a naturopathic doctor, acupuncturists, psychotherapists, and a colonic hydrotherapist as well as in Metropolitan Washington DC area in Knowles Wellness Center in Kensington, MD.
